An Ibadan Magistrates’ Court sitting at Iyaganku on Monday sentenced one Wale Sunday, 28, to six months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stealing in a church.

The Magistrate, Mrs Munirat Giwa-Babalola, said the accused bagged the light sentence because he pleaded for leniency and in view of the fact that he was a first offender.

The sentence was, however, without an option of fine.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Oluseye Akinola, said Sunday broke into Christ Victory Church at Sobulade street, Oke-Ado area of Ibadan.

He said that the accused, who was arraigned on Oct. 10, 2013 had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety.

Akinola, who said that the accused was unable to perfect his bail condition, later pleaded guilty.

He said the offence contravened section 416 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
