The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has warned the entire police force against excessive and necessary use of force contrary to standing rules of weapons engagement.
He issued the warning in a circular sent to all Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police, Command Commissioners of Police, Heads of Department and Formations across the country.
He has advised officers to respect citizens’ constitutional rights while performing their duties and he has promised that defaulters will be punished.
He has also reminded the police of the ban on road blocks. He also emphasized his commitment towards building a reformed and professional police force that meets international standards.
He has also commended the public for their perseverance and has asked them to cooperate with the police for a better state of security in the Country.
