Mohammed Abubakar, Inspector General of Police (IGP), has ordered the redeployment of 14 Commissioners of Police to states and other police formations across the country.

Nineteen other senior officers including six Assistant Inspectors-General and thirteen Commissioners from various commands and formations, including Zonal Commands and Force Headquarters, are to proceed on a capacity-building course.

According to police spokesman Frank Mba , “The affected CPs have been urged to vigorously step up the fight against all forms of criminality in their new Commands and Formations”

“They are enjoined to leverage on the cordial relationship among sister security agencies in their respective beats, to ensure that criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum. They have also been charged to ensure that officers and men under their supervision are mindful of the rights of the citizenry, while cultivating the trust and confidence of the public in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.”

The newly redeployed commissioners are: Lawal Tanko posted to Borno State; Ibrahim Ahmed, Zamfara State, while Hilary Okpara is the new CP in Bayelsa State.

Concerns have been raised over the IGP’s refusal to transfer the Rivers Commissioner of police Mbu Joseph Mbu, even when the national assembly has recommended the move.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State government has raised a new alarm that the police authorities are planning to transfer police officers massively out of the state in the next few weeks.Sources in the state government who did not want their name in print for fear of reprisals say the transfers are now being processed.
