The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is conducting outstanding legislative re-run elections Imo state in what appears to be a battle royale between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Today’s election in Imo will pit Senator Athan Achonu (PDP) and APC candidate Benjamin Nwajumogu in direct confrontation, is coming after three failed attempts to elect a representative for Okigwe North senatorial district, with the last attempt fixed for February 20, 2016 abruptly aborted on the eve of the election over alleged threats of insecurity.

INEC’s Administrative Secretary, Chinedu Oburunobi, who announced the postponement, had told newsmen then that his commission suspended the rerun in the wake of some protests, disturbances and security threat.

The Imo ReRun election is taking place in the following local government areas:

1. OKIGWE LGA

2. ONUIMO LGA

3. ISIALA MBANO LGA

4. EHIME MBANO LGA

5. IHITTE UBOMA LGA

6. OBOWO LGA
