The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday said it cleared seven political parties and their candidates for the Adawawa governorship by-election scheduled for October 11.

The candidates, according to the commission's daily bulletin in Abuja, include Senator Mohammed Jibrilla of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with Martins Babale as his running mate; Aminu Furo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Elisha Jalo as running mate; Aminu Waziri of Kowa party with Raymon Mamuno as his running mate; Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with Jingi Kandamwe as running mate; Amos Sunday of PPN with Semen Gangpete as running mate; Abdulnasir Hamman of MPPP with Ta’aziya Ishaya as running mate and Mohammed Malgwi of National Congress of Progressives (NCP) with Serah Daniel as running mate.

The bulletin said that INEC had cleared 24 domestic and seven international organisations to serve as observers for the election.

The domestic organisations include the Youth Initiative for Advocacy and Advancement; Police Service Commission, Election Monitor, Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms, Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness.

Others also included Women Arise for Change Initiative, Alliance for Credible Election, Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room, Nigerian Bar Association, Human Rights Monitor, Independent Election Monitoring Group and African Centre for Leadership Strategy and Development.

The international organisations are European Union Delegation to Nigeria, United States Mission to Nigeria, British High Commission, International Foundation for Electoral Systems, UNDP/DGP, UN Women and Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Abuja.
