Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Dr. Yunusa Tanko on Monday called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fund political parties for public enlightenment ahead the 2015 general elections.

According to him, if the 25 political parties are funded through IPAC to carry out public enlightenment, it will help ensure an enlightened electorate, large turnout, credible, free and fair elections.

He said that the funds should be made available through INEC to the political parties.

"IPAC can play enormous role in the enlightenment of voters. Imagine if the 25 political parties are being funded equitably well for public enlightenment.

"We know our catchments areas. We go to the grassroots and enlighten the electorate on what can be done to ensure that we have credible elections.

"When there is enough funding for enlightenment, it would help the electorate to know the sequence and the processes of the elections,” he said.
