The House of Representatives has promised adequate funding for the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in the 2014 budget says the Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Business, Rep. Albert Tsokwa (PDP-Taraba).

“You may well know that 2015 is election year, the house will ensure that INEC is well funded in the 2014 budget estimates,’’ he said.

He said that the house would sustain viable oversight functions over the executive and other agencies of government.

According to him, the oversight is aimed at giving Nigerians the much expected, but `elusive’ dividends of democracy.

Tsokwa said that 660 bills and 645 motions were introduced on the floor of the house since the inauguration of the seventh house in June 2011.

He said that out of the 660 bills, 46 bills emanated from the executive, while 610 were private members bills.

The legislator said that the lower legislative chamber passed 75 bills and 172 motions.

Tsokwa assured that the house would continue to concentrate on legislations, which would improve the welfare and well-being of Nigerians.

The house will resume plenary on Jan. 14.
