The Plateau Independent Electoral Commission is to recruit 9,000 ad hoc personnel for the conduct of the state’s local government council polls scheduled for Jan. 30, says the Chairman of the commission, Mr Peter Dalyop.

He explained further, stating that the commission would assign three ad hoc staff to each of the 3,000 polling units for the exercise.

He said that the personnel would be recruited and trained a week to the election, adding “we will not recruit the personnel now and leave them hanging around doing nothing’’.

“We will soon arrive at that. The training will take place a week to the polls,” he said.

The chairman said that the commission had already trained 40 of its staff, comprising of electoral officers and assistant electoral officers.

Dalyop confirmed the receipt of voters register from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and said he was not considering a modification to it.

The exercise which was twice postponed was initially slated to hold on Dec.7.

The commission said that the decision for the postponement was reached following consultation with stakeholders and ``some unanticipated operational challenges'.
