Nigeria's ex President Goodluck Jonathan has been linked with militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers for the second time, this time by an intelligence report, a report by The Nation says.

MEND, a militant group had previously named Jonathan as the sponsor of the Avengers, who have caused serious damage to Nigeria's oil export business.

According to the Nation, the intelligence report corroborated most of the accusations MEND launched at Jonathan.

An intelligence officer reportedly said the Avengers was a contingency plan should Jonathan lose the Presidential elections in 2015 but was suspended afterwards. The militant group was revived following the current administration's probe of the oil industry, the officer said.

“We suspect that the ex-President is afraid that the way the investigation in the oil industry was going, he and his wife will be questioned," an intelligence officer reportedly said.

Goodluck Jonathan had dismissed reports that he's the sponsor of Avengers, saying MEND was out to assassinate him.

GEJ should explain further than that MEND wanted to kill him.

The following two questions among any others will help him to explain.

1. Did MEND wantto kill you GEJ using snipers or by roping you in as the destroyer of National assets and the murderer of Nigerian soldiers?
2. Did you set up the Avengers as a counter force lunched against your enemy MEND but the Avengers missed thier mark?

Goodluck must answer questions.

I was expecting a more confidential and an encompassing reports from The Nation about the said Report, but lazy investigation is the order of the day.

Well, what do we expect but a more divertionary attention at the woes in economic and the nation's growth at large. TheNation should go and Siddon somewhere.

Exactly my thoughts. Where the The Nation newspapers get the 'intelligence report' from? Who authored it? Propaganda all the way

@kayode ajayi In case you do not know, The Nation is an APC newspaper

The Nation and Sahara Reporters are known to be sympathizers of some APC bigwigs, going by their reports.

The problem is one's fear of missing out on something important or knowing when they're reporting the truth.

This is more gossip than fact, but if he wanted to sponsor a millitia he could have so easily brought this government down. I think GEJ deserves to account for his actions in govt once there is reliable evidence of wrongdoing. But for this govt to embark on another media trial of GEJ is nothing more than silly, senseless and petty act by the government that is desperately seeking to lay blame on someone else for their incompetence and distract Nigerians from other better issues.
Its 2017 already Sai Baba and co, so enough with the stories already.

We are so quick to forget that someone -- who is former President's ally -- vowed to make this government ungovernable...
