A 31-year old Islamic religious leader in Zimbabwe, James Gande has reportedly raped 14-year old girl and congregant, saying that she had to pay for her father's debt. The incident was reported to have happened at the mosque, after threatening to stab the girl with a knife.
The accused, Gande, yesterday appeared before Ms Barbra Chimboza, and was charged with rape, but was released on $10 bail, coupled with some conditions that include: reporting twice a week to the police and to surrender his passport.
It was alleged that the girl was leaving the mosque after afternoon prayers with her four friends when Gande asked her to stay behind. Gande lied to the the victim that he wanted to give her a parcel for her father. And after telling her friends to go, Gande allegedly took her to a guardroom. He then told the minor that her father owed him something which he did not disclose.
He told the girl she was going to pay for her father's debts in any way he pleases.
