The Nigerian delegation to Ivory Coast, for the CHAN qualifiers, were given a warm reception on arrival in Abidjan for the game on Saturday.
On arrival at the airport, the Immigration officer designated to the homebased Eagles, reportedly asked the Nigerian delegation to forego the necessary Airport requirements,of filling forms, and rather asked them to proceed into the city of Abidjan, with delaying them with all these protocols.
There were reports that the immigration officer, said“Nigeria is here to win” which caught the attention of the NFF Vice President,Mike Okeke Umeh, who is the leader of Nigeria’s delegation to the game.
“Thank God they know we will defeat them here. Nigeria is now used to winning and even airport officials know that fact,” Umeh boasted afterwards.
However,NFF Director technical,Emmanuel Ikpeme said he was impressed with the reception, but that he is not carried away.
Nigeria has a 4-1 advantage going into the game, and needs to avoid a defeat of up to 3-0 to make next year’s CHAN Championship in South Africa.
