The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Wednesday in Abuja revealed that the voter registration would continue till 2015 general elections, adding that electoral laws made provisions for continuous voter registration.

Commenting on the Nov. 16 Anambra governorship elections, he said the commission appreciated all the challenges at the poll and would work toward solving it in subsequent polls.

“The lapses at the Anambra poll are not substantial grounds to cancel the election. The lapses are regrettable.

“We take responsibility for them, but they are not convincing enough to annul the election,’’ Jega said.

Jega noted that the commission accepted that it had operational challenges during the Anambra poll.

“Evidence of claim that INEC performed badly such that it should cancel that poll is yet to come before us.

“Many of the claims are not substantial and are not backed with evidence,’’ he said.

He promised that INEC would “ take the issue of voter register seriously.”

“I assure that INEC will try everything possible to get it right with regards to the voter register before the 2015 elections,’’ the chairman said.
