The Jigawa House of Assembly has passed a bill empowering Emirs to pay their salaries and allowances and those of district and village heads from 5 per cent allocation derived from local government in their areas.

The Chairman of House Committee on Local Government, Alhaji Adamu Sarki, stated this on Tuesday in Dutse.

He said that the bill was an amendment to the Local Government Law No. 7 of 2007.

``Other expenditures including capital projects will be paid from the 5 per cent they received from the local governments in their domain,’’ he said.

The Speaker, Alhaji Adamu Ahmed, said the new law would ensure an upward review of the allowances of all wards, village and district heads in the state.

"The Secretary to the State Government will recommend to the emirate the amount that will be paid as allowances to ward, village and district heads,’’ he said.

The bill which was sent to the assembly by the executive was deliberated on and unanimously passed by the lawmakers.
