The Kirikasamma Local Government Area in Jigawa on Friday said it promoted 654 teachers from 2010 to 2012, said Alhaji Daudu Yusuf, the Secretary, Local Education Authority (LEA) in the area.
Giving a breakdown, Yusuf said that 208 teachers were promoted in 2010, 260 in 2011 while 186 in 2012.
He stated that the council had spent more than N2.6 million for the payment of promotion allowances to the affected teachers.
He explained that the teachers were working in various primary and junior secondary schools in the area.
According to him, the council had executed various development projects to expand enrolment and improve teaching in the schools.
Alhaji Sabo Abdullahi, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the area, commended the council for upgrading the union's members. He said the gesture would go a long way in improving the condition of service of teachers.
