The ASUU strike may soon be called off as the President has approved N400bn for the development of infrastructure in Nigerian Universities.

This is expected to be effected at the meeting of the presidential committee on implementation of the NEEDS assessment with leaders from four University-based union: the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The President of SSANU, Samson Ugwoke made the plan of the government known at a weekend meeting of SSANU national Executive Committee.

He said that the funds to be provided has nothing to do with the N100bn the NEEDS assessment implementation committee chaired by Governor Suswam has raised from donor agencies and companies to help alleviate the Nigerian Universities' problems.

According to him, the president has approved for N400bn to be released over the course of 4 years to enhance infrastructure in the universities.

The N100bn raised by the NEEDS assessment committee would be used in areas such as refurbishment of lecture theatres and halls, renovation of libraries, laboratories and hostels.

He noted that N96bn out of the N100bn has been sent to Universities.

According to him, Monday's (today) meeting would be about how to monitor the funds and ensure it is used for transforming and developing Nigerian Universities to meet with International Standards.

...And it's thursday! Surprise surprise! ASUU strike rages on.

Bullshit and hogwash they keep feeding us, but like babies with mastitis-infested mothers, we have to keep on suckling from the diseased nipples of the nation.
