Police sources have reported to the BBC that an explosion has rocked a public health college in Kano. At least seven people have been killed in the blast that occurred at the Kano School of Hygiene.

Kano state has been the target of the insurgent group, Boko Haram, in the past and currently, three states in the North-east are under a state of emergency imposed by the government as a result of the attacks.

BBC reports that a college teacher in the school suggested that the blast might have started from a car park close to the post-secondary training school.

From Yahoo! News: "So far, 20 have been taken to the hospital. Of that, eight have been confirmed dead," Kano state police chief Aderele Shinaba told journalists at the blast site on the grounds of the city's School of Hygiene.

This blast is coming in under a week after about 21 people were killed in a blast occurring outside a shop in Yobe state (where people had converged to watch Nigeria’s first World Cup match in Brazil). As a result of that attack, the public viewing of the World Cup has been banned in parts of Nigeria.

Despite the promise of military protection, there are still reports of daily attacks in the North.

From CHANNELS: "
Mr Omeri also announced the death of a notorious terrorist, Mallam Husseini, who died in an encounter between members of the Boko Haram sect and a Military convoy along Joo-Bauchi high way.

The ‎spokesperson of the Kano Police, Magaji Majiya, who earlier confirmed the blast, told reporters that officers were on their way to the scene of the blast.

He said the area had been cordoned off and that the commissioner would address the media at the scene.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but a terrorist group, Boko Haram had carried out similar attacks in Kano and states in Nigeria’s northeast."
