Kano state government has rejected the recent appointment of a caretaker committee for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports, Alhaji Ahmed Shu’aibu-Gara speaking at a news conference in Kano on Wednesday told the News Agency of Nigeria that the appointment of the caretaker committee for the state by the national leadership of the PDP is against the party's constitution.

‘’From preamble to declaration in the party constitution there is no where it provides for a caretaker arrangement as bridging model for any available vacuum whatsoever.

‘’Besides appointing a caretaker for 90 days for Kano state, there is nothing to take care of. Rather it is a careless undertaking that is dead on arrival because it is pregnant with intent’’, Shu’aibu-Gara said.

He explained that the state chapter of the PDP had formally notified its leadership on July 26 that the tenure of the state Exco was to expire on Aug. 23.

Consequently, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in a letter dated Aug. 22, addressed to the zonal PDP chairman and signed by the then Acting National Organising Secretary, directed the zonal office to oversee the affairs of the party in Kano, he added.

The same letter contained a timetable for the conduct of the state congress in the state.

‘’We requested that appropriate steps be set in motion for a state congress to elect new officers of the party’’

He said as at the time of addressing the news conference, there was no communication whatsoever from the party overriding the earlier decisions of the NWC but only for them to learn on television that a caretaker committee has been sworn-in.
