Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has lashed his Malawian counterpart,Tom Sainfeit, for requesting that next month’s World Cup qualifier be moved away from Calabar.
Sainfeit, alongside the Football Association of Malawi(FAM) last week wrote to FIFA,requesting that the game be moved away from Calabar, saying that their security cannot be guaranteed in the city.
But Keshi visibly angry with the antics of Malawi for the game, said that they cannot dictate to them where they have to host their games.
”The Malawi coach cannot tell us where to play our matches,” Keshi told BBC Sport. “He can say whatever he likes, that’s his own opinion and problem. We have no problem and he is not qualified enough to make that call or request,” he added.
“This is where we play our games and other countries are fine with that.”
“Someone cannot say to Nigeria to take the game elsewhere because he feels too important.”
“Please tell him (Saintfiet) the game will take place in Calabar, he can choose not to come, we have no problem with that.”
The Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) on the instance of FIFA,had to write a security guarantee on Wednesday, with the backing of the Nigerian Police, assuring of the safety of the Malawians for the match.
Nigeria tops group F,two points ahead of Malawi and needs just a point to make the last stage of the qualifiers.
The game between both sides will be played on September 7,at the UJ Esuene stadium in Calabar.
