Sports Keshi turns down NFF's offer for a foreign assistant

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has refused the imposing of a foreign assistant coach on his technical crew, but rather requested for the reinstatement of Sylvanus Okpala.

There are reports that Keshi turned down an offer from the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) to get a foreign assistant in the build up to the 2014 World Cup.

Keshi wants Okpala back in his technical team, after the former Super Eagles player was laid off last year, but the NFF are refusing to sanction a return for the former assistant coach.

“Stephen Keshi was offered the chance to choose a foreign assistant, who will work under him but he made it clear he was fine with his current assistants and backroom staff. The federation did this because they felt Keshi needed additional assistant,” NFF Technical Committee spokesperson Paul Bassey, was quoted as saying on Vanguard Sports.

“But Keshi said he wanted one of his assistants, Sylvanus Okpala, to be recalled. The federation told him Okpala can’t be recalled because he was sacked for insubordination.”
