Metro LAGBUS Ticketing Official Lands in Court for Embezzling Funds

Nigeria - A LAGBUS ticketing officer, Lukan Toluwalase, 40, was on Tuesday arraigned in Lagos over alleged embezzlement of N730,000 invested by his employer.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, saidd Toluwalase had on Aug. 1, at 10.00 a.m., at his employer's office, located at No. 41, Igbehin-Adun St., Shomolu, collected the money to purchase tickets.

He said the complainant, one Mr Bada Roland, had engaged the services of the defendant to run the ticketing business of Transmodal Nig. Ltd, a LAGBUS franchise, and make returns.

Adegoke also said that the accused was employed to run the ticket business at Transmodal Nig. Ltd., for which he provided a total sum of N730, 000.

“The defendant failed to make available the profit made on sales, and also refused to return the principal amount he collected," Adegoke said, adding that the offences contravene Section 278 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 17, 2014, for mention.
