A senator has agreed that their huge pay is unjustifiable and is a source of envy for lecturers. He said this is one of the reasons for the ASUU strike.
According to him, the demands made by ASUU are purely for themselves and not for the welfare of the students. He said there is nowhere in the world except Nigeria where lecturers would make such demands.
He said the lecturers are asking for more pay because their classes are large and this is because they know what the senators earn.
In another interview, senator Sola Akinyede said the government should look into reducing senators' salaries in order to increase resources in other sectors.
He said that their huge pay is unfair because it hampers development.
