No doubt, Nigeria is faced with so many troubles, ranging from the herdsmen attack, to the brutal killings in local communities. The recent abduction of politicians and relatives is also a cause of concern. Below are the names of politicians, government officials and relatives that have suffered at the hands of hoodlums, some also killed since the inception of 2016.

1. April 2016: Senator Iyabo Anisulowo (OGUN) - a former Minister of State for Education, was being abducted by unknown gunmen in Yewa North local government area of Ogun state. The one-term Senator who represented Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly between 2003 and 2007 was kidnapped alongside her security aide. She was said to be returning from her farm when the incident happened.

2. Friday, April 22, 2016: 3 Osun State Govt Officials Kidnapped in Kogi – They include the Permanent Secretary of Osun State Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Adebimpe Ogunlumade, her driver, Mr. Oladapo Arogundade Ajani and a Director from the Ministry, Mr. Tajudeen Badejoko who accompanied her. They were abducted by unknown gunmen when they were returning from Abuja where they attended the briefing on the State and Local Government Reforms Project, a World Bank and European Union programme.The state Auditor General who also travelled with the officials was said to have escaped the abduction by a whisker.

3. April 2016, PLATEAU: Suspected kidnappers abducted and killed the newly appointed transition committee chairman of Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State. The late Mr. Azi was appointed the transition committee chairman of Jos East on Thursday, following the removal of his predecessor, Sanda Agwom, by Governor Simon Lalong. Family sources said Hosea Azi was kidnapped in the evening along Miango road, in Kufang, near former NYSC Secretariat in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

4. April 2016, ENUGU: Stephen Ogbobe, an auditor with Enugu State Government was allegedly abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen along Nsukka/Adani road. He was released some days after.

5. March 2016, Rivers Re-run Elections: APC Chieftain in Rivers state, Elyon Ntiro Elijah and Chief Ibibia Walter, the Commissioner for Water Resources were reportedly kidnapped by some unknown gunmen few hours to the commencement of the state’s re-run elections. Elijah, who was a former leader of Andoni local government legislative assembly was said to have been kidnapped at Asarama waterside in Andoni local government of the state in the night.

6. December 19, 2015 – February 2016: Nancy Keme Dickson: The26 year old sister of Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson, was reportedly kidnapped on the 19th of December 2015. She was seized at her shop on Okaka Road in Yenagoa, the state capital. The gunmen, who reportedly drove in an ash Lexus Jeep, were said to have trailed her to the shop and whisked her away to an unknown place at 2:50pm. She was released February after two months of abduction. Nancy is said to be the last child of the Dicksons.

7. 27 March 2016: Nigerian Army Colonel - A serving senior Army officer, Colonel Samaila Inusa was kidnapped on Sunday, 27 March 2016, and killed by his abductors same day. Preliminary investigation revealed that most likely the late senior officer was killed same day he was kidnapped by his abductors. This is because the body was found already decomposing around Ajyaita village off Eastern Bypass Kaduna, Kaduna State.

8. April 20, 2016 – KANO: 40 Unknown gunmen stormed the residence of a popular local politician, and slaughtered two vigilante in dare devil operation. The gunmen stormed the politician’s residence around 2:00 am and abducted his two housewives. The hoodlums killed the two vigilante that bravely resisted the attackers.
