Abuja police on Tuesday, arraigned one Nanana Gilbert for failing to produce a suspect he stood surety for in the police station.
Gilbert, 52 on Nov. 22 stood surety for three suspects; Emmanuel Oke, Stanley Uche and Chukezie Onuh who were arrested by the police.
He was asked to bring the suspects to the station on Dec. 2 for interrogation, but he brought only two suspects and left out the third suspect, Uche, and could not give a satisfactory account of his whereabouts.
Anigbo said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 167 of the Penal Code and is punishable with imprisonment of five years and also liable to a fine.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Nafisat Mohammed, granted Gilbert bail in the sum of N20,000 and one surety in like sum who must be resident
within the jurisdiction of the court.
The case was adjourned to Dec. 19.
