Godwin Idon, a middle-aged man killed his 40-year-old wife for allegedly killing a snake inside their home in Uzebba-Iuleha, Owan West local government area of Edo State, over the weekend.

The accused was said to have been infuriated by the action which he described as a taboo in the community. The son, was a product of the deceased earlier marriage to another. Sources say killing a snake inside the home of an Uzebba-Iuleha person is not just a grave sin but a taboo in the community.

It was gathered that an argument had ensued when the couple's son had killed the snake in question in the couple's living room. It was later revealed that after a week of quarrels, the deceased, in company of her mother-in-law, decided to visit a native doctor to know the implication of the son’s action and it was upon her return that the husband accused her of foul play and subsequently, used a plank to hit her on the head when a quarrel ensued. The deceased dies on the spot.

The area commander of the police, Mr David Jimwang, confirmed the incident, saying the man has been arrested and has been transferred to the state police command.
