A middle aged man has been questioned by the Lagos police over the incident where a 10 year old girl was sexually abused. Ifeanyui Iwuji was brought in for questioning over the accusation that he had serially abused the daughter of his neighbour. The suspect is a father of an eight month old child.
Iwuji had asked the permission of the girl’s mother, Comfort, to send the girl on an errand. Iwuji did not send the girl anywhere but locked her up in his room. When the girl did not return on time, the mother grew concerned. Comfort approached Iwuji’s apartment to inquire about her daughter’s whereabouts and found her daughter’s slippers at the entrance of his apartment. When she called out her daughter’s name, Iwuji replied from inside that her daughter was not there. When Comfort kept knocking on his door, Comfort heard him talk in hush tones and when he opened the door, her daughter came out. When Comfort confronted him as to why he lied to her, Iwuji could not give a straight answer.
Comfort queried her daughter, who later confessed that Iwuji had been systematically abusing her. He had started abusing the little girl since June 2013, lying to her mother that he wanted to send her on an errand, and then telling her to enter his room, where he locked the door, removed her pant and told her to put cream in her private part. Then he would start rubbing his penis on her part and would try to kiss her. Comfort reported the matter to the Dopemu Police Division.
The case has been discontinued by the Investigating Police Officer, because according to Comfort, the IPO said she had to go on her annual leave. When she resumes work on September 12th, then so will the case.
