The France international joined the Red Devils in a £36M deal from Monaco and hit the ground rolling with his debut in his side's 3-1 victory over Liverpool on September 12 and then added a brace in a 3-2 away win at Southampton on September 20.

The 19-year-old forward, who is most expensive teenager in transfer history was again on target for United in the Capital One Cup win over Ipswich three days later and has continued to impress in his three appearances since.

It is the first time a United player has clinched Player of the Month since Robin van Persie in April 2013 but Martial was pipped to United's own monthly player award by team-mate Juan Mata.

However, the French teenager also scooped the PFA Fans' Player of the Month prize for September - Louis van Gaal was piped to the manager's award by Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino
