Politics Medical Vacation: 5 Indications That Buhari Will Return This Week

Well, if the handwriting on the wall is anything to go by, Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari may return this week, though no official statement to that effect yet. Buhari has been on a medical vacation in the UK since January 19, fuelling several speculations as to whether he is physically fit than what public officials, reports, pictures are saying. More than 50 days already, there are indications that the former military dictator may soon return home.

They include:

1. Buhari's Phone Call to Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello – President Muhammadu Buhari in a telephone conversation informed Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello that he'll be coming home soon from the United Kingdom. “The President thanked the governor for his support and his leadership qualities. He told the Governor that he is observing rest and will return very soon to continue his assignment of providing purposeful leadership for the nation.”

2. Former Minister of State for Information, Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande: Nakande over the weekend during a special prayer session in Jos said President Muhammadu Buhari may return to the country on Monday. “From the information I gathered, President Buhari is hale and sound and may come back today (yesterday) or tomorrow (today). All what is needed from us is prayer for the full recovery and God’s guidance for the president to deliver his campaign promises." He said.

3. Femi Adesina – Exactly a month ago on February 7, Femi Adesina, special adviser to President Buhari on Media said his principal would return sooner than people expect. In an interview with Channels Television, Adesina said: ''the President may be coming back sooner than people think”.

4. President Buhari – President Buhari himself has confirmed in a series of telephone conversations that he is well, and would be back home soon, though no official confirmed date yet. But, he has given assurances that he would return to the country soon, hopefully this week.

5. Moves By Aides To Bring Buhari Home – Some aides to President Muhammadu Buhari have renewed attempts to return him to the seat of power in Abuja before the possibly eight-week closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, according to Sahara Reporters. The airport is scheduled to be shut down for at least six weeks starting from midnight on March 7, 2017.

“Some of Mr. President's associates are mounting pressure on him to return to Abuja as soon as possible, and especially before the [Abuja] airport is temporarily closed," Sahara Reporters quoted an acknowledged source.
