The former chief of First National Bank, Michael Jordaan, has joined Mxit – which is an instant messaging platform designed for the African target market – as the chairman of its board of directors.

Mr. Jordaan will be succeeding Roger Grobler, who still remains on the board in a non-executive capacity.

The former bank chief was ecstatic about his new position, making it clear for all to see that he was impressed with the giant strides an indigenous company like Mxit had taken in developing the media industry of South Africa.

“I have been watching Mxit with interest for several years now. It is difficult not to have a sense of pride about a homegrown South African company making such an impact in the social media and mobile space. It was an easy decision to join as chairman and I am looking forward to playing a part in the future of Mxit, both in South Africa and internationally,” said Jordaan.
