UEFA president Michel Platini said that the concept of the Ballon d'or award has completely changed since FIFA started organising the award.

Platini who himself won the coveted award three times during his playing career,is believed to be disappointed not seeing his fellow countryman Franck Ribery land the award.

Ribery played an instrumental role in Bayern Munich's team that won all the competitions they played in 2013.

Speaking to French sports daily, L’Equipe, Platini voiced his frustration adding that the world will continue to see a Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi dominance for many years to come.

“I’m very disappointed for Ribery. Next year we’ll be back to a duel between Cristiano and Messi, then in two years we’ll have Cristiano vs Messi and for years it will be Cristiano and Messi…

“For the past 50 years, the Ballon d’Or has taken into account titles won on the field of play. Now it’s based on the overall performance of the individual players and that’s a problem. Although Cristiano is a worthy winner of the Ballon d’Or. The Ballon d’Or has changed since FIFA started organising it.”
