Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, has reportedly tendered his letter of resignation to President Goodluck Jonathan. It is believed that he has resigned to pursue his ambitions for governorship of Rivers State once the incumbent, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi’s tenure expires.

The minister is said to have briefed the president of his intention to contest in the 2015 Rivers state governorship election. He has reportedly gotten President Jonathan’s approval to contest.

The resignation is expected to take effect from April 1, 2014. His resignation will be announced next week, on Wednesday during the Federal Executive (FEC) meeting.
