Nigeria - A Minna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand in prison custody of a 20-year -old commercial motorcyclist, Nafiu Abubakar, for alleged sexual intercourse with a 3-year-old girl.
According to Police Prosecutor, Insp. Ahmed Saidu, a Nura Yusuf of Suleja, reported the matter at the police station on Oct. 2.
Saidu said that on the same date, the accused was said to have had sexual intercourse with the 3-year-old girl against her consent and confessed to committing the crime during investigation.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor thereafter objected to bail of the accused person, arguing that the accused had jumped bail in the past before he was traced and arrested and brought to court
In his ruling, Magistrate Abdullahi Usman, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending conclusion of police investigation into the matter.
