Sports Miroslav Klose retires from international football

All-time record highest goal scorer at the World Cups Miroslav Klose has today announced his retirement from international football.

Playing at four World Cup tournaments for Germany,Klose is the top scorer in the competition with sixteen goals.

At the last World Cup in Brazil,the former Bayern Munich player eclipsed Ronaldo De Lima's previous record of fifteen,incidentally in the semifinal whitewash of Brazil which Germany won 7-1.

Klose scored 71 goals in 137 appearances for Germany,and he is the only player to score at four World Cup finals.

"I am happy and proud to have contributed to this big success for German football," said Klose.

"Winning the title in Brazil was a childhood dream come true,"Klose said in a statement released by the German Football Association.

He becomes the second player to quit the German national team after they won the World Cup,following captain Philipp Lahm to retire from international football.
