The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued Mobil Producing Nigeria Ltd a licence to build a 575MW power station in Eket, Akwa Ibom.
A statement issued by the commission's Head of Public Affairs, Dr Usman Abba Arabi, on Friday in Abuja said the licence was issued after all stipulated requirements were met by the company.
It said the commission's Vice Chairman, Muhammed Bello, acknowledged the significant stride made by the company, and assured it that NERC’s mandate is to ensure availability and reliability of electricity.
The statement quoted the Managing Director of Mobil, Mr Mark Ward, as saying that the occasion was a momentous one.
"The project provides a unique opportunity in the sense that there is ready fuel supply and connection to the grid".
