MSF announces end of measles outbreak in Nigeria

Médecins Sans Frontières which supported Nigerian authorities throughout the measles outbreak in Katsina State since February has announced the end of the epidemic on Tuesday.

This outbreak began in December and lasted for 28 weeks during which 36,000 people were infected and 198 people died.

MSF was able to achieve this by providing case management and epidemiological surveillance in the states 34 provinces that were affected. Also, They conducted a mass vaccination campaign, in which about 217,500 children aged six months to five years and 215,038 children aged six months to five years recieved vaccinations and were screened for malnutrition, respectively.

MSF research branch will release the results of the malnutrition and vaccination treatment survey by the end of August.
