Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, who is currently serving his seventh term in office on Sunday mocked Burundi’s president Pierre Nkurunziza’s third-term bid.

According to NEWS24, speaking at the opening session of the African Union assembly of heads of state in Sandton on Sunday afternoon, Mugabe who reiterated his commitment to African leaders serving as much terms as possible said, ''we [in Africa] put a rope around our own neck and say leaders must only have two terms''.

''It is a democracy, if people want a leader to continue, let him continue''.

Mocking Burundi’s president Pierre Nkurunziza’s third-term bid, Mugabe said, ''They say the first term was not a real term. But you were there for five years!''.
