Muslim migrants fleeing the war in their home countries; Syria, Iraq and Pakistan are converting to Christianity in their droves in the hope it will greatly improve their chances of winning asylum in Germany.

Being Christian alone does not help an applicant and Chancellor Angela Merkel recently went out of her way this week to reiterate that Islam 'belongs in Germany.' But in Afghanistan and Iran, for example, conversion to Christianity by a Muslim could be punished by death or imprisonment and it is therefore unlikely that Germany would deport converted Iranian and Afghan refugees back home.

DAILY MAIL UK reports that many claim true belief prompted the move, but the decision will undoubtedly boost their chances of being granted asylum by allowing them to claim they would face persecution if sent home. None will openly admit to converting in order to help their asylum chances.
