The Aviation Ministry on Tuesday continued with the defense of its head, Stella Oduah, who has been indicted in a messy scandal of over inflated and unconstitutional purchase of armoured BMW cars, reportedly worth N255 million.

A statement signed by Yakubu Dati, the Co-ordinating General Manager of Aviation parastatals, did not only accuse the opposition of being behind the leak report, but also described Ms. Oduah as a “shining star” in President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. The spokesman further accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Abubakar Kawu Baraje faction of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, of the “face behind the mask.”

This is missing the point. The question: were these cars actually bought? Were they bought for N125m more than they should have cost? Was this expenditure in budget? Who authorised this purchase if not in budget?

The opposition are just in glass houses throwing stones. Unfortunately for the madam, her issue is now in the public domain and she has to deal with the questions.
