Following the declaration of war against the minister of education by a leader of it's faction, the National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANS) has passed a vote of confidence on the Minister Of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, LiveSchoolNews reports.
The factional NANS leader, Comrade Shehu had announced the declaration of war on Shekerau by the student body and called on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately sack the minister over what he called the minister’s dishonorable actions.
The union distanced itself from the declaration of war against the minister by a faction of the union led by Comrade Tijani Usman Shehu, saying he was not a registered student of any university so could not be president of NANS
But the president of NANS, Comrade Ali Wali, at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, passed a vote of confidence on the education minister who he said resolved the lingering ASUP strike in a matter of weeks after his appointment.
“We are proud to say that President Goodluck Jonathan has once again placed a round peg in a round hole by appointing Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau as minister of education”.
Wali also said NANS had set up a commitee to sanitize the association and rid it of dissidents who had converted the association that was once the Nigerian students’ pride into a full time business run by a cabal who are non students.
