The Nasarawa State Government has procured 200 tricycles to be distributed to youths at subsidised rate as part of its empowerment programme, says Gov. Umaru Al-Makura on Tuesday in Lafia while inaugurating three newly appointed permanent secretaries in the state civil service.

Al-Makura said the tricycles would be given out at half the price to beneficiaries, adding that the gesture would go a long way to check youth restiveness.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to transform all sectors of the state, including the civil service, which he described as the engine room for the transformation agenda.

He added that the appointment of the new permanent secretaries was in keeping with the administration’s posture to reposition and strengthen the public service.

The appointments were based on merit, given the new appointees’ track record of hard work, loyalty, sacrifice and dedication to duties.

He, therefore, urged the new permanent secretaries to bring their wealth of experience to bear in their new assignments and to sanitise the civil service.

He pointed out that the interest and welfare of the state workforce was paramount to his administration, saying he had directed the immediate allocation of 300 housing units to civil servants before the end of the year.

The governor also said that the government would embark on intensive capacity building programme for civil servants from the first quarter of 2014 for improved service delivery.

Al-Makura, who decried the lackadaisical attitude of some civil servants to their duties, said a committee had been set up to workout modalities for the promotion of civil servants on sustainable bases.

He, however, added that the government would not hesitate to impose sanctions on those found wanting.

The new permanent secretaries are Mr Naphtali Dachor, Khalid Musa and Mr Daniel Ageno

*distributing tricycle at a cheaper rate. There are other opportunites of developing competence in Youth than this. To me, they are creating more nuisance in the soceity

Nice view  You probably have more brains than those at the helm of affairs.

I only smell some money changing hands- with no youths involved whatsoever.

Tricycles...why are some governors so backward. Other places are trying to phase out those 3 wheeled nightmares and he's flooding his state with it. What happened to agriculture? .
