A mass protest is in the works by students of certain universities from Tuesday, 13th of August, in protest against the ill of public education in Nigeria. Organised by the Joint Action Front (JAF), the protesting student, mostly from the South-West zone, may plan to block all roads to leading to Lagos State. The protests will also include zonal rallies in Kano, Owerri, Ibadan, and Abuja amongst others.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had kicked off the nationwide academic strike on the 2nd of July over unresolved issues contained in the 2009 FG/ASUU Agreement.

According to ASUU, the Federal Government was in breach of a Memorandum of Understanding both parties had signed in 2011, one of which was the none payment of Earned Allowances.

A meeting organised by the Federal Ministry of Education ended in a deadlock. ASUU has vowed not to suspend the strike unril its demands are met.

I hope those students are protesting against the Federal government and not ASUU. 'Cos ASUU is fighting for them. Facts should be gotten before actions are taken.
