Nigeria: Operational certificates of airlines in the country that are defaulting in the payment of staff salaries, will be suspended, The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in a statement by Fan Ndubuoke, general manager, public affairs, says.
“As far as the NCAA is concerned, the issue of non-payment of staff salaries is critical to safety. The moment an airline cannot meet its financial obligations, it is believed that the staff morale will be down and this can impact negatively on safety and security of its operations,” the statement further read in part.
The aviation regulatory body issued this statement after its management held a meeting with all the affected airlines. NCAA stated that it will no longer condone a situation where the affected staff will disrupt travel plans of passengers over unpaid salaries, #BusinessDay says.
The body warned that if the current trend persists, it will resort to sanctions, one of which may result in suspension of Air Operators Certificate (AOC)..
