Nestlé inaugurates Kids’ Athletics programme in Nigeria

Nestle on Thursday partnered with the International Association of Athletics Federations(IAAF) to launch the inaugural edition of the Kids Athletics programme,in Nigeria.
It is the first time,such initiative will be taking place in Central and West Africa,with Nigerian primary school pupils becoming the first beneficiaries of the scheme.
The programme will help harness the abilities of school-age-children,encouraging and helping them to develop positive physical,health and social skills by engaging in sporting activities and also to act as preparatory ground for the development of future Nigerian athletes.
Ex-athletes,Yusuf Alli and Falilat Ogungoya,now members of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria,were present at the launching,with AFN using the initiative to identify potential athletes that will be groomed to represent the country in future.
Speaking at the event,Managing Director of Nestlé Nigeria, Dharnesh Gordhon said:“Nestlé is pleased to provide financial support for the further development of IAAF Kids’ Athletics programme”.
“Beyond supporting IAAF’s Kids Athletics programme, we believe that this partnership will further enhance Nestlé Healthy Kids Global Programme and improve the Nutrition, Health and Wellness of school-age-children,” he added.
The Kids Athletics programme commences this July and will climax in September,with the intention of reaching over 200,000 pupils across six regions in the federation: Ibadan, Ilorin, Owerri,Kano, Asaba and Gombe.
