Mr. Toyin Obadina, Deputy Editor of Saturday Newswatch, has given up the ghost a few hours after he was shot by unknown gunmen.

Obadina was shot by suspected armed robbers at the Ikorodu area of Lagos on his way home from work. He was then rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where he died after hours of battling for his life.

His wife, Abiola, in earlier reports had said her husband was responding to treatment after the doctors carried out an emergency surgery on him to extract the bullets from his body. However, sources said hours after the operation, Obadina died due to the large quantity of blood he lost as well as the extent of the damage the bullets caused in his stomach.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has expressed shock and sadness over the death of Obadina, blaming the murder on the profileration of small arms in the country, called on the government to arrest the situation.
