Governors of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met withformer President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday night to find ways of resolving the crises in the party and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).

Reports have it that the governors bickered until the early hours of the morning yesterday before the meeting was adjourned to yesterday night. The meeting discussed the struggle for the party’s structures in the states and the question of automatic tickets for elective office holders eligible to contest for a second term in office, especially for the president and governors.

There were suggestions that part of a final reconciliation would lead to Governors Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State and Jonah Jang of Plateau State, who head different factions of the NGF stepping down.

Obasanjo is expected to lead the governors to President Goodluck Jonathan, to whom they would complain about several issues such as the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan’s meddlesomeness in the affairs of states especially Rivers state.

One of the PDP governors told the press, “The situation whereby aspirants are flocking to her (Patience Jonathan) to seek her consent and blessing is unacceptable to most of the governors and we want her to stop trying to impose lackeys as the next governors in the states”.

Before the meeting between Obasanjo and the governors began, it was learnt that the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, held a closed-door meeting with President Jonathan between 9 pm and 11 pm on Monday.

Details of the last night meeting between President Goodluck, former president Obasanjo and the PDP governors are still unknown.
