Nguru Community to Suspend payment of PHCN Bills

Civil Right and Voice Initiative have directed residents of Nguru Local Government area of Yobe State to suspend payment of monthly bills to PHCN.

This directive was contained in a statement signed and made available to the news men by the chairman civil right and voice initiative Alhaji Rabiu Musa and his secretary Umar Sanda Farouk.

The announcement further stated that it is observed the monies paid for the electricity/power supply does not worth any value to it.

According to the chairman, the expected normal hours of supply is calculated to be 720 hours in a month but supplies could not reach up to 30 hours in a month.

Rabiu Musa said ‘’ yet we settle our bills without exhibiting any form of dissatisfaction to the PHCN/ service providers’’.

He said ‘’ to our dismay no reason so far has being issued from the management to what actually cause less hours supply to the customers’’.

The Chairman call the attention of all the esteem consumers to suspend payment/settling of their bills pending when the supply improve to some reasonable hours.

Our reporter was at Nguru town in order to assess the situation, among the residents interviewed was one Abdullahi Mai Ruwan sanyi located at Nguru main motor park, he said’’ our situation is very pathetic because we can no longer make sales; the whole Nguru town is now looking after Hadejia for cool and ice water since the month of Ramadan set in’’

Another respondent was located along Kano Road by Abattoir, he gives his names as Danlami Nato, he said ‘’ in my life this the first time I witness a situation where people of my be love town which is (NGURU) rushing to buy an ice block at the cost of N80 each’’.

He said’’ this cool and ice water vendors are coming on daily basis from Jigawa State, they sell to us as if we are foreigners- this ugly situation must be reverse urgently’’ he concluded.

When our correspondent visited the Nguru district office of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) he met the business Manager Mr Hebert R. Hanawa where he explained that the stated figures above concerning hours of supply is misleading.

He said going by the hours of supply for the month of June, 2013 under review indicates that Nguru Business Unit’s number of hour’s active service was put on 117:00hrs; out of this figures Nguru 11kv feeder got 60:00hrs while Gashua 11kv feeder got 51:00hrs respectively.

The Business Manager said there is no district of PHCN in Nigeria that gets the supply of 720hrs in a month as claimed by the complainants.

The manager further urged customers in his district to channel all their suggestions, complaints as well as their grievances to the appropriate authorities in order to have solutions towards their problems and for an amicable clarification.

Adding, that his Business Unit is currently facing under supply of electricity from RTM Kumbotso of Kano State via Hadejia Transmission Station in Jigawa State.

Hanawa said ‘’ we and our Zonal Management at Yola, are making frantic efforts to see that Nguru district enjoys adequate power supply.’’

He therefore, solicits the corporation of all customers to join hands with management and his staff members in realizing the set objective of providing sufficient electricity supply for all their needs; promising that the situation will soon improve.
