President of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), Mr Adekunle Makinde on Tuesday in Lagos has urged the Federal Government to unbundle the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), saying the measure would enhance the company's efficiency and ensure improved service delivery in the transmission chain of the sector.
He said the irregular power supply being experienced in the country was due to the inefficiency of TCN in the sharing of energy among the Distribution Companies (DISCOs).
He stressed the need to fast track the implementation of the reforms in TCN and called for the upgrade of the transmission lines, so as to evacuate what was being generated.
According to him, the TCN has not been doing well in its duty. "If you are generating 10,000 mega watts of electricity and you do not have the functional transmission lines to evacuate them, it will still lead to system collapse,’’ he said.
