THE awaited recalculation of Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP) has again been delayed.

Nigeria has long been regarded as the only credible threat to South Africa’s position as Africa’s largest economy. A recalculation of its GDP will help establish the actual size of the Nigerian economy.

Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) statistical information officer Leo Sanni on Monday told Business Day that the December 10 deadline for the rebasing of the continent’s top oil producer had been postponed by two weeks.

"We continue to work on the process and have extended the date of completing the project by two weeks," he said.
