Africa's governing footballing body, CAF, has awarded Nigeria the hosting rights for the 2016 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations.

In a letter to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday, CAF said that it is ready to meet with the West African nation "as soon as possible to start preparations of the said competition."

CAF also disclosed that the beach soccer tournament has been switched from 2017 to 2016 since the "Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup might be held early 2017."

“Considering indeed that the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup might be held early 2017, and that Caf in odd years do organize three major events back to back, namely the Africa Cup of Nations followed by the Under-20 and Under-17 Cup of Nations from January to April 2017, the Caf Executive Committee decided to ease the overall calendar of events by organizing the Beach Soccer Cup of Nations every even years from now on.

“Hence, we look forward to a tremendous competition and to meet your team as soon as possible to start the preparations of the said competition,” part of Caf's letter to NFF stated.

The Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations will take place in Lagos in December this year and will also serve as qualification for next Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas.
