Nigeria has lost the Deputy Secretary-General seat at the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) to the United Kingdom in a keenly contested election in Busan, South Korea, ThisDay reports.

Excerpt:

Nigeria had last month won the chairmanship position of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO), in another keenly contested election in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and was motivated by it to contest for the ITU position, following its achievements in the telecoms sector, but lost gallantly.
While campaigning for Nigeria, Johnson, in a policy statement, said Nigeria has valuable experience to share, and the nation is imbibing best practices from other countries, and Taylor is versed in the operation of the ITU, since he has held several full-time and part-time positions within the union, having worked in the telecommunications industry in both developed and developing economies.

In spite of the campaign, Nigeria lost in the election, even though she lost gallantly according to the electoral body.
