Business Nigeria: First Bank Foresees Boom in Privatised Power Sector

First Bank Plc of Nigeria has said in its publication, Research Weekly that the power distribution sector holds huge potential following the proposed privatization of the sector next month.


The potentials in medicals is based on a report from the Indian High Commission which revealed that 47%of Nigerians who visited Indian in 2012 did so to get medical attention, spending $260 million in the process.

Inherent potentials in power distribution business in Nigeria was based on a recent report that distribution companies generated $1.18 billion as at May 2013 and this amounts to a 25% increase in the funds generated in 2011.

The research unit also said these inflows were tips of the iceberg as reforms are still going on. If and when power is made available, reliable and perceived to be priced in a transparent way- these collections could be significantly larger.
